Locus calls for ‘clarity and transparency’ in Government PSI plans
   Locus, 03-02-2011

The Chair of the Locus Association, Audrey Mandela, has called for greater clarity and transparency in relation to the Government’s proposals for a new Public Data Corporation, as well as the creation of the new National Address Gazetteer Database (to be called ‘GeoPlace’).

Audrey Mandela, Chair of the Locus Association, said:

For the PSI sector to generate value for the UK economy and continue to supply innovative services both to the Government and to consumers, certainty is critically important to maintain stability and create a favourable climate for investment and growth.  Businesses need assurance that taxpayers' money won’t be used by Government organisations to gain a competitive advantage over the private sector – which would stunt growth. This fact is at the core of both submissions we have made on the creation of the Public Data Corporation and GeoPlace. Both need clear definitions of remit and public task, regulatory scrutiny to hold them to account, and fair and competitive licensing arrangements which treat public and private licensees equitably.”
